    Description

WW1 Bruce Bairnsfather 9” Grimwades Plate 1917 Staffordshire wartime homage. The comics from “Bullets and Billets” were used on plates and other ceramic wares during the War. This plate has a couple of guys dismantling a bomb…
Back of plate says: made by the Girls of Staffordshire during the winter of 1917 when the Boys were in the Trenches Fighting for Liberty and Civilization
    Grinwades Stoke on Trent
After the war, the stamp wording changed to “With the end of the war in November 1918 this was changed to either “A Souvenir of the Great War” or “A Momento of the Great War”, with the dates of commencement, Armistice and the Signing of Peace underneath.”
Please look at the photos to see the two 1/4” notches on the back. Neither impacts the front aesthetic. Considering this plate is over 100 years old it is in good condition— the gold is still gleaming around the edges. Crackling in the glaze (see photos) and otherwise an amusing artifact.
