Description
British propaganda iron cross, this pot metal rendition of the GERMAN ARMY'S most widely issued decoration for valor in combat were meant to ridicule the German soldiers bravery and hopefully weaken their desire to fight.Boxes of these medals were carried into German positions during trench raids and scattered around liberally , or dropped by planes in the rear areas, where troops were billeted. The reference to KULTUR'' was a jab at the destruction of churches and libraries in Belgium & France. The medal also represented towns destroyed in Belgian and France. In April 1917 America entered the war , and these medals could be purchased foe 25 cents in magazines.
